The Art of Travel – Discover the Regent Seven Seas Explorer Experience

Infinity Pool

There’s something magical about waking up to a new horizon each morning.

The gentle rhythm of the ocean, fresh coffee on your private balcony, and the quiet anticipation of another day to explore — or simply unwind.

Recently, I had the opportunity to step onboard Seven Seas Explorer for a ship inspection, and it immediately reminded me why Regent Seven Seas Cruises is so often described as effortless luxury. From the moment you walk on board, everything feels calm, spacious and unhurried — a ship designed not to impress loudly, but to make you feel at ease.

Space to Truly Settle In

We visited two suites during our inspection, and what struck me straight away was the sense of space. Every suite has its own balcony, generous storage, and beautifully designed bathrooms with double sinks — details that make a real difference when you’re travelling for more than just a few nights.

There’s room to unpack properly, tuck suitcases neatly away under the bed, and actually live in your suite rather than just sleep there. It’s the kind of space that invites you to slow down and settle in — something many travellers don’t realise how much they value until they experience it.

All-Inclusive That Genuinely Simplifies Travel

Regent’s all-inclusive concept is one of the most complete at sea, and seeing it in action really brought that home.

Everything is included — dining, beverages, shore excursions, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and even laundry. And not just laundry, but your way: pressed or ironed, folded or hung back into your wardrobe. One of the little perks I loved is that on the final day of your cruise, you can have everything washed and folded, ready to go straight into your suitcase — meaning you continue your travels, or arrive home, without a pile of washing waiting for you.

It’s a small detail, but it perfectly sums up Regent’s philosophy: removing friction so you can simply enjoy the journey.

There’s no signing for drinks, no checking which beverage package you bought, no mental calculations. You walk onboard knowing that everything is there. The only extras are very clear — premium vintage wines, spa treatments, boutique shopping or the casino — but otherwise, it’s refreshingly simple.

Even your minibar is personalised. Before sailing, guests can select exactly what they’d like stocked — whether that’s Baileys, a favourite gin, or a particular beer — and it’s replenished as needed, without limits.

Elegant, But Never Stuffy

One of the biggest surprises for me was the atmosphere onboard.

Regent is sometimes perceived as formal, even a little intimidating — suits, ties, and strict dress codes. But that couldn’t be further from what I experienced. The guests we saw were relaxed, casually elegant, and clearly comfortable. For dinner, the dress code is straightforward: for men, a collared shirt (a polo is perfectly fine) and trousers that cover the knees. That’s it.

The overall feel onboard Seven Seas Explorer is refined yet wonderfully relaxed.

The ship itself is stunning — Art Deco in style, with a hint of Gatsby glamour. Marble finishes, beautiful glass installations, and genuine artworks (including pieces by Picasso) create a sense of quiet sophistication rather than over-the-top opulence.

Dining, Wellness & Life Onboard

We enjoyed a four-course lunch during our visit, and it was absolutely divine — a reminder that Regent’s reputation for dining is well deserved. With multiple dining venues onboard, there’s always choice, whether you’re after something elegant or more relaxed.

The spa was another highlight for me. Serene Spa & Wellness™ offers a beautifully designed space to unwind, complete with sauna and an cold room — a surprisingly refreshing experience and a lovely balance after a day ashore.

Daytime onboard can be as active or as slow as you like: enrichment talks, trivia, afternoon tea, poolside relaxation. Evenings are equally flexible, with shows, music, quiet lounges or simply stargazing on deck.

Why Shore Excursions Matter

One of the areas where Regent truly stands apart is shore excursions — all included.

On many cruise lines, the cruise fare may look attractive, but once you add excursions in each port, costs quickly add up. With Regent, that’s already taken care of. You explore without constantly reaching for your wallet or weighing up what’s “worth it”.

That freedom — both financially and mentally — is one of the true luxuries of this style of travel.

Who Seven Seas Explorer Is Perfect For

Regent appeals to travellers who value comfort, ease and authenticity. Many have travelled extensively and now want depth rather than speed — a more thoughtful way of seeing the world, without sacrificing comfort.

If you’ve ever worried that luxury cruising might feel stiff or overly formal, Seven Seas Explorer may surprise you as much as it surprised me. It’s polished, yes — but also warm, relaxed and quietly confident.
